Halloween Flashback
posted on Jan 31 2006

In a flashback from Halloween past, an interesting picture with me sporting a football jersey which read:

    Mississippi College
    20??

Very funny. Especially considering that the first time I can remember hearing the name ‘Mississippi College’ I was 16-years-old.

One could also make the argument that the jersey was an omen to the the “experience” I’ve had finishing grad school.

LIVE BLOGGING - The State of the Union Address
posted on Jan 31 2006

Welcome to the second installment of live blogging. The first, of course, being the 2006 Miss America pageant. It was fun, and I’m sure this occasion will be no different.

The best channel to watch this on in order to avoid unwanted remarks is definitely C-SPAN, which you can actually watch live on the web.

I’ll try to keep it light and fun… maybe…

7:50 - I got the mouse in my right hand, and a Diet Dr. Pepper in the left… let’s get this show on the road.

7:59 - The First Lady just walked in… I love her.

8:02 - Fun Fact: There is a gas mask underneath every seat on the floor of the House. (Stupid teenagers think it’s funny to pick them up when you take them on tours of the Capitol… and then we yell at them)

Happy Halloween: The Ghost Car

The last video of the day is a goody.

While filming a car commercial, a ghost was spotted in a clip after filming commenced. Look for a small white figure to appear just as the car emerges from behind the trees.

We don’t really do PSAs around here… but I feel that this is a good cause.

An email from Bethany Daniel:

Alana Oliver is the younger sister of Alan Oliver, an MC and Civitan
alum. She was born with cystic fibrosis and a few weeks ago, was blessed to
recieve a long-awaited double lung transplant. She's getting married
in December and someone nominated her and her fiancee for a "Win a
Wedding" contest on the local country music station. Please ask you readers to
go to k949.net and vote for “Alana and Avery” to win the wedding.
You vote in a column on the left side of the screen under the “poll”
section. As you don’t have to submit any personal information at all, you can
vote as many times as you wish! PLEASE vote often! (I think you may have to
close out of the browser and open a new one each time you vote.) It’s been
neck and neck all weekend between the top two!

    Thanks so much Landon.

When It Comes To Facebook… Always Be Very, Very Careful

An interesting article

shoes of the fisherman the free

on how potential employers are scanning the Facebook to get the “scoop” on potential employees.

Employers are beginning to use sites such as Facebook to access personal information of candidates for employment, said Kathy Sims, director of the UCLA Career Center.

And not all employers are pleased with what they find.

Ouch. Time to take down those scandalous “It’s Christamas Break!!!!” pics…

Still Stuck in Wyoming
posted on Jan 31 2006

In the words of Kristen from Laguna Beach: my engine is dunzo

It’s fried, gone, whatever your term may be.

A small leak within the engine allowed coolant to emtpy into the engine. Not good. I had my car inspected 1 week ago today to make sure that it would be able to make the 2,600+ mile journey cross-country. However, this problem was either not a problem at the time, or it was simply undetectable.

I still have 960 miles to go in my journey to Seattle. There are two car rental businesses here in town but neither of them rent one-way. And the only U-Haul truck available is 24 feet… that’s this size… and it’s way too big.

So, for now I’ve got the guys at the Pontaic dealership hunting for a used engine within town.

I’m feeling alright. There’s nothing I could have done to prevent this, so I just have to go with the flow.

I’ve still got my nice hotel room and a rental car to get around town. I feel as though I’m in a movie. Kinda like Doc Hollywood where Micheal J. Fox breaks-down in the middle of nowhere as he’s making a job transition. Only he meets a hot girl and falls in love.

Maybe there’s some cute girls up at the Dairy Queen.

I've Got A Craving To Camp-Out
posted on Jan 31 2006

I love to camp-out.

And my gosh… I live in one of the best parts of the southeast to go camping. Why don’t I ever camp-out?

One of my best friends is a friggin’ Eagle Scout. Why don’t I ever camp-out?

I can chop-down trees with my pinky finger. Why don’t I ever camp-out?

I got this craving after viewing the photostream of one of my favorite Flickr photographers, Buck Forester.

You’re never gonna view my photos again once you see these. Seriously… look at this. I mean, my gosh.

Anyhow, if anybody wants to go camping soon… just lemme know. I’d go by myself, but 6 weeks in Europe was enough alone time to last for a while.

I Spy Ryan Berry
posted on Jan 31 2006

While aiding fellow Jasperian Paige DeAngelo last night, I came across a clip from the 1999 Egg Bowl.

This is when I actually liked Mississippi State.

Maroon jerseys. Maroon helmets. The interlocking MSU and none of this M State junk. Croom came to Mississippi State and claimed that, “…there ain’t but one color that matters here and that color is maroon.”

He then gave the football team all-white-outfits.

ANYWAYS, as you view the clip… look for 3rd-year Mississippi College Law School stud Ryan Berry [facebook] on the sideline, about 1/4 into the clip. He’s the cheerleader, jumping up-and-down, just as a cheerleader should. I won’t kid Ryan about being a cheerleader… he enjoyed it too much, and your words cannot break his bones.

Besides… he got to hang-out with the hottest girls on campus for 4 years of college. Did you?

Well… I did.

Question of the Day: Christmas In October

While I’ve already seen a few “Christmas themed” television commercials, I have yet to see a full-fledged “It’s almost time for Christmas!” commercials.

Question:

What - if any - Christmas TV commercials have you seen already?

So I Watched The Bachelor Last Night…
    posted on Jan 31 2006

I don’t really know why, but in-between Business 2.0 and travel research, I got to flipping and ended up on The Bachelor.

    Some thoughts:

    - The redhead has bad teeth (but you can only tell when she’s talking). No to mention that she’s pretty immature…

    - The girl from Cananda barely opens her mouth when she talks…

    - If I was the Bachelor (ha, that’s a funny thought) all girls with tatoos on their lower backs would get the boot on night #1…

    - Just what is a “vitamin sales rep?”
