Well, change of plans.
Long-story-short, the passport agency has screwed up… big time.
After speaking with a representative on the phone last week, I was “assured” by them that my passport would be in my hands this Wednesday. Well, the agency had some problems and decided not to call me… two days before my flight is to depart.
That said, I’m postponing my trip to Europe.
In the words of John Denver: “All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go.” But the passport agency fudged it all up.
I was told today by our county curcuit clerk that this was the worst case of any passport process she’s ever seen. Nice to know it happened to me.
I’m like to thank Congressman Robert Aderholt’s office for using all their Congressional powers to help me in this matter. Miss Pat was on the phone all morning long doing everything she could to get me to London.
In the end, the passport agency had the upper hand, and there was nothing we could do.
I’ll be sending a letter to Robert’s office first thing next week to thank him for providing such a wonderful staff. Though the matter is still unresolved, it is much better than it was 24 hours ago. In my letter I’ll also outline the problems with the passport agency and the more-than $400 they will cost me by the time this process is finished. One thing I’ve learned over the last 2 years: Find a Congressman who will stand up for you and your community, and keep electing him.
I’ve got that in Robert and his staff. I wish we could keep him forever.
Am I mad about postponing the trip? This morning, I was furious. If you’ve talked to me within the last 24 hours… chances are I’ve been a little rude. I’m sorry. I’m better now… once I finally gasped the situation and all that surrounded it, I was able to calm down a little.
When I have more time I’ll tell you about Plan B. It was a good one.
