Happy April Fools Day
posted on Mar 31 2006

Since April Fools Day is tomorrow… most of us will be sleeping in, enjoying the weather, and practacing our body-building poses.

Since I’ve already started [incedentally] a prank this week (I somehow convinced half of the Jackson-metro area that Casey & Scott Tuminello were expecting a baby) I thought I’d skip playing a prank this year and offer you something different.

‘The Office’ PSA’s.

These ran last night on NBC… and they are hillarious. A large selection of fake Public Service Announcements that are just perfect to forward around in an office email on the last day of March.

March is already over… weird.

Anyways, enjoy.

Not A Joke

This was the Facebook group I was invited to join the other day…

    Name: Singles [link]

Description: This is for all single folks.

Announcement: Once you get in a relationship, you will no longer be allowed to be in this group unless single again later.

Folks… there’s a difference between being single, and being desperate.

Quotes of the Week
posted on Mar 30 2006

Courtesy of Jennifer Wyckoff after her visit to Jasper on Monday and Tuesday:

“You know when you look back at your hair and think, ‘Wow, my hair did really well that night’, you know?”

…and,

“You know when you wear something and you have no idea how much it costs, but when you find out, you get really nervous about wearing it?”

It’s nice to know that Jennifer hasn’t changed a bit.

What A Difference A Week Makes
posted on Mar 29 2006

I snapped this with my Treo yesterday at the gym. I was without my camera, so the camera phone had to be witness to one of the best sunsets I’ve seen in a while. The photo doesn’t do it justice.

This time last week I was in London, standing on Waterloo Bridge in 30 degree temperature… in the wind. Just to get this picturethis picure… and this picture.

By the time I got the shots I wanted, my left hand was numb, and my right hand was frozen in a claw-like position.

Today… I’m wearing shorts, and I rolled-down the windows to admire the blooming trees and flowers while driving to lunch.

Cold weather can kiss my butt.

Mind The Closing Doors
posted on Mar 29 2006

Remember me telling you that I saw something funny on the Tube in London?

Here’s the video:

The man tried to beat the closing doors. As the doors shut, they caught his left elbow and left knee. He couldn’t move.

This short clip was all I could really get before I had to run down the platform to tell the tube conductor what was happening. I got pretty tickled when I first came across the scene. I talk into the camera a couple of times as I attempt to film inconspicuously from my hip.

By-the-way, he was ok after the doors finally let him go.

The Facebook Is Cocky
posted on Mar 28 2006

The Facebook has turned down a deal to be purchsed for $750 million and is now asking to be purchsed for: $2 billion

Billion… with a “b.”

Keep in mind, this was a company started just over 2 years ago by a (then) 20-year-old as a “dorm project.”

Just comes to show that you can do anything in life if your timing is right, and if you let co-eds post dirty pictures of themselves on Spring Break.

How Google Became Google
posted on Mar 28 2006

If you are a marketing or advertising junkie and/or a budding entrepreneur such as I, watch this video.

OR, if you simply love the search egine such as I, you will love this insight into the company that may soon run the world.

Seth Godin, a marketing expert, tells Google how they became the super-power that they are.

Alot of this is obvious to those of us who have worked in marketing. However, it’s tiny details that most of us never saw that led to Google’s success.

It is a long video… but if you work in an Ad Agency, go ahead and kill part of your workday to watch it.

Your boss will thank you.

The Asian Invasion
posted on Mar 28 2006

MC alum Jennifer Wyckoff [facebook] recently left her position at Innovative Vision Group, and she figured that a great way to blow 24 hours and a few gallons of gas would be to come visit yours truly in Jasper.

As always, Miss Wyckoff updated me on all-things-friends, all-things-news, and all-things-gossip.

Jim ‘n Nick’s bar-b-que for lunch, and a nice 3 hour dinner with family and friends was the entertainment of the day. We also made a quick trip to God’s great creation, Smith Lake (which was actually man-made).

The epitome of our generation’s “socialness” could be seen last light as Wyckoff and I both sat at our respective computers, both in our own world, both suggesting which songs should be downloaded while we perused Facebook, then laughed as the stream of scandalous photos began to come through, chronicling the best and worst moments of Spring Break 2006 through the camera lens of our “wilder” friends.

Miss Wyckoff will leave sometime this morning… after that, she’s your problem Jackson.

Just kidding…

Well… happy Tuesday!

I know, I know… a very odd selection to place on the front page of the blog on such a wonderful Tuesday mornin’. But I must say, this graffiti in Berlin caught me off guard, but didn’t really offend me.

You see… graffiti is everywhere. Especially in major cities. And when you start to travel to enough, you start to admire it… kinda.

You don’t really want people to deface property that isn’t theirs… but that doesn’t stop some of it from being pretty good.

Is this particular piece good? Well… it’s pretty creative, and it definitely got my attention.

But I don’t know about calling it “good.”

Morbid? Uh… yeah.

Funny? A little.

Artistic? Only if you were the kid in high school who used to sit in the back of the class wearing all-black.

Purchasing Pictures
posted on Mar 27 2006

I’ve had a few of you ask about buying pictures I took in Europe.

Once I get all of the pics online, I’ll let you know how to go about ordering one.

Pictures probably won’t be more than $10 a print for an 8×10.

Pictures from Europe.

Conversation Of The Week
posted on Mar 27 2006

The following conversation took place between a United States Passport Stamper and myself at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday.

No, he was not a customs agent. Customs agents check bags and ask you questions that make you feel as though you are not worthy enough to enter a country.

This guy, however, just stamped passports.

Passport Stamper: So you’re just travelling after finishing graduate school?
    Landon: Yep.
Passport Stamper: Leave the Ivory Tower.
    Landon: I’m sorry? [confused look]
    Passport Stamper: The Ivory Tower…
Landon: Yeah. I actually have no idea what that means.
Passport Stamper: College is referred to as the ‘Ivory Tower.’
Landon: [Jokingly] Shows you how much I learned in college, eh?
Passport Stamper: [Gives me a "you're an idiot" look... turns his head to look in the opposite direction.]

Maybe I should have asked him what college taught him how to stamp passports for 40 hours a week.

‘Puter Problems
posted on Mar 27 2006

I was home very little over the weekend, so I didn’t have much time to create any Eurosix posts.

On top of that, I’m having some problems with my laptop.

On top of that, I’ve got a friend in town today.

So… the photos/videos will be a couple of days.

Sorry.

The Power of George Mason Compels You
posted on Mar 26 2006

I am officially supporting George Mason University in its Final Four bid.

Yes, I know that two other SEC teams are in it. But it isn’t like LSU and Florida have athletic programs that are in need of their “big break.”

If George Mason makes it to the Championship Game, there are rumors around landonhowell.com headquarters that there will be a live blogging of the event.

That should motivate you to cheer harder.

For quite an entertaining news photo stream, just click here.

The Dawgs lose.

Everyone tried to tell you not too get to excited and to take your ranking with a grain of salt, but you just wouldn’t listen. You were too busy using exclamation marks on Gene’s Page or creating Facebook groups, or finding out what a “win” is.

But like, oh my gah, don’t forget that Super Bulldog Weekend is totally just around the corner. There will be a ground-breaking, a baseball game, and you’ll get a sneak peek as to how bad your football team will be in 2006.

For directions, please use Google Maps… ’cause Starkville doesn’t appear on most maps.

[Ok MSU grads... go ahead and take this post waaay to seriously.]

8th & Ocean
posted on Mar 25 2006

You knew it was coming. MTV, the network I love to hate has spun another show that currently has my attention, until I form a solid opinion of it.

8th & Ocean, a “reality show” which chronicles the lives of 10 young, good-looking models who are living together in an apartment in Miami’s South Beach (one of my favorite beaches in the US).

I haven’t really formed my opinion just yet, but here’s as far as I have got…

The Owner

Irene Marie of The Irene Marie Agency looks like a dude.

Camera Work

A little different from Laguna Beach in that the camera work on LB is a little more fluid, and less shaky than 8th & Ocean, whose handheld qualities are almost a little bit too “Blair Witch Project” at times.

I know none of you care about this aspect, but it intrigues me, and has a huge effect on viewership.

Opening Song

This caught me by surprise when I first heard it. The opening song “Beautiful Love” is by The Afters, a Christian group, whose song you can hear by clicking here.

However, I’m sure MTV couldn’t care less and is obviously using it simply because the lyrics fit the show.

My Favorite ‘Character’

This one is obvious. Britt, the dark-haired Christian preacher’s daughter from Kansas City has won me over with her seemingly unapologetic faith, and attempt to stay away from “racier” photo shoots.

Now, if we can just keep that sleazy Teddy away from her.

Tid-Bits From the Last Day in Europe
posted on Mar 23 2006

So, I’m on a plane right now, but I’m not live-blogging or anything. Just an automatic post created last night.

Expect a post from my Treo sometime today when I use my cellphone for the first time in 37 days.

Some thoughts…

  • Saw ‘Stomp’ last night. Although I’ve performed a number of routines from this Broadway/West End wonder, this is the first time I’ve seen it. Oh. My. Gosh. Incredible… but like Blue Man Group and Les Miserables, you can’t compare the three together.
  • Please pray that I don’t get stuck by another moron on the plane to Chicago. And also pray that the food is not made of fake meat. And also pray that homeless kittens would find a warm home, with warm hearts, and warm milk.
  • I bumped into some kids last night at ‘Stomp’ from Montgomery, Alabama. Interestingly…. or, uninterestingly, the conversation started when a girl saw my jacket and said, “Thank God somebody else is wearing a North Face jacket.”

I really had no idea how to respond to that, and too many jokes ran through my head. So, I quickly shifted the focus to our complimentary accents.

  • Jasper boys. Don’t forget, we’re headed to Perico’s tomorrow where I will order a Chicken Quesadilla with Spanish Rice and Pepsi… with all the free re-fills I want!
  • Pink! has already recieved an “award.”
  • I’ve never been so excited to get to the gym. I lost 1 belt notch on this trip, but don’t look any skinnier in the mirror, but my muscles are still unbelievably huge… seriously folks, it’s not even funny. (Sorry)
  • Have you ever been sitting beside someone whose breath is so bad that they are speaking in the opposite direction from your nose and you can still smell it?

  • Last Day
    posted on Mar 22 2006

Since tomorrow is nothing but in-flight movies (I had Walk The Line and Cat In The Hat 3 times on the way over), dinner in Chicago O’Hare, and getting back on Jasper time… today is technically the last day of Eurosix.

Folks, let me say… it’s been fun. I have absolutely loved having you all read along, send Facebook messages, and private emails along the way to keep me semi-updated on all the good gossip.

I’m so glad I could help to entertain, or simply help you waste the day away at work.

However, Santa’s still got some toys in his big fat sack (again… get your mind out of the gutter).

You didn’t think I would show and tell you everything that has happened since I’ve been gone? Surely you know me better than that.

I promise no to drag this out too much, but I gots to tell you all the stuff I haven’t told you yet!

When I get back (March 23), I’ll take a couple of days to travel-detox, eat Chick-fil-A ice cream (Ice Dream), and lounge with friends. But then, get ready for 2 weeks of the following:

    Video Clips

I’ve a handful of clips taken with my digital camera. Some are inspiring, some are intersting, and some are an attempt to be funny.

    Funny Stories

Stuff that will require it’s own article, and not a 12 word tid-bit.

    Odd Stories

Just what this implies. A couple of moments and nights where things got interesting. Nothing crazy or stupid… just interesting. That’s all I’ll say.

    More Photos

It takes a while to short through the photos… much less upload them. I’ve got about 100+ I haven’t released yet. I’ll release them, city-by-city.

    Things You Should Know

I’ve made a list of things people didn’t tell me before I headed off to Europe. If my trip has inspired you to do so, maybe these will help.
