Looking back at the mere 25 years I’ve been on this planet, I must say I have a few regrets.
Only a few regrets, but regrets nontheless.
One of which is learning how to play the piano. Oh to be able to play the piano and sing at the same time – what a joy that would be! Which is why I must now find a woman who can tickle the ivories and make her my bride.
Actually… the only real reason is so that people could refer to me as a “pianist” and no matter what church or venue I played in, people would always laugh.
[Don't get it, yet? Pianist... say it once.... there you go.]
Question:
-
If you could learn (or if you are currently learning) to play a certain instrument, what would it be?

I played the piano from elementary through high school and love it, and wish i could play more often.
But recently, I’ve wanted to learn to play the violin.
9:35 am on Jun 16 2006My summer goal is learning to play the guitar. Lessons start July 1. Yay!
9:37 am on Jun 16 2006My summer goal is learning to play the guitar. Lessons start July 1. Yay! I have already saved the chords to my favorite Dixie Chicks songs in word and am just waiting on the skill…
9:38 am on Jun 16 2006Apparently me pushing the “X” button didn’t stop the first one from going through. I wanted to inform you of what my ‘style’ would be when I do learn to play the guitar. Now I just look like an idiot who can’t have one complete thought without rethinking…
9:39 am on Jun 16 2006Back in my Hanson fanatic days, Zac (the drummer) was my favorite, so I wanted to learn how to play the drums like crazy. The parents wouldn’t buy me a set, so I kind of learned how on my best friend’s brother’s…
So now, the only song I know how to play on the drums is “When I Come Around” by GreenDay.
All this to say…I want to learn how to play the drums so that isn’t the only song I know for the rest of my life (although it is a good one).
9:45 am on Jun 16 2006I wish i could play the horn. I like the horn, the horn because it sounds so forlorn
10:09 am on Jun 16 2006Although I bought a mandolin and started learning, I haven’t practiced in while. It hurts my fingers and I get frustrated so easily. I wish I could just snap my fingers and be good. I WILL be good one day. I’m determined. As far as instruments that I haven’t started learning but would like to, the saxophone would be my number one. I want to learn how to play every Sade song there is… because don’t worry… I have a number of her CD’s and listen to “Smooth Operator” and “No Ordinary Love” on a regular basis.
10:11 am on Jun 16 2006I am a piano and guitar lesson drop out. My poor parents even bought me a piano and a very nice classical, acoustic guitar. I don’t think instruments are my calling. BUT, I think that being able to play a Keytar would ROCK!
10:16 am on Jun 16 2006I would like to learn to play the clarinet…oh wait…well, maybe the bass clarinet…oh wait…well, maybe the trumpet…oh wait…well, maybe the baritone…oh wait. Hmm…what’s left? I guess I’d like to learn to play the tamborine. I’ve always had good rhythm and that way I can get more involved in the band at Pinelake. Or maybe Landon and I could start a band.
10:36 am on Jun 16 2006Karen… hilarious… I dabble on the piano and can play the guitar, but i really love the piano so Ill just stick to that one in hopes of becoming Phillip Fortenberry! Bleh!
10:42 am on Jun 16 2006Karen, i’m sure that after your band played people would comment… “I am surpised ‘How Well’ they played”…. get it??
11:13 am on Jun 16 2006Ryan: Wonderful ‘You’ve Got Mail’ reference…
11:23 am on Jun 16 2006I played the french horn for 3 weeks in 6th grade. Although, I wouldn’t really call it playing it. More like, I learned Every Good Boy Does Fine and FACE. That’s all I remember about music. My mom made me drop out of band ’cause I wanted to do Drama. THANKS, MOM! But, sometimes…I just sit back and wonder “What might have been” with my french horn…
11:26 am on Jun 16 2006Travis – French horn players are amongst the elite of America’s society. A fact.
11:45 am on Jun 16 2006ACTUALLY –
Karen DID play the clarinet, bass clarinet and baritone (?) in the Junior High Band (6th, 7th, 8th grade). She did not continue with band after 8th grade. She won a MAJOR band award in 8th grade because she was able to learn to play several instruments well and she was mortifed to have to go forward to accept the award at the final band concert of the year.
5:19 pm on Jun 16 2006Just to clarify…the award that Annie is talking about was the “most improved” award…AKA the “you took the short bus to band camp and the least we can do is give you a little ribbon” award.
6:53 pm on Jun 16 2006A coworker told me last night that she used to play the spoons in college. I never knew spoons could be used as an instrument. She went on to explain how much talent and rhythm one must have to clap to spoons together. I think I’ll learn to play the spoons.
