posted on Dec 15 2006

I got a message last night from my boy Ernest in NYC who pointed out that our friend Brooke (who’s married to Josh from the band Tyler Read) had her MySpace profile signed by none other than Jenna Fisher… “Pam” from The Office.

…you’re my my friends too… so feel free to brag as well.

Home Alone Over the Weekend
posted on Dec 14 2006

No, I’m not actually home alone in Seattle… that would be sad, but nice to be able to run around the crib naked all weekend with nobody here.

Okay, I’m way off topic.

Anyhow… everybody’s favorite Christmas movie Home Alone is on television twice over the weekend on TBS.

I will thoroughly regret this post later.

Mississippi College Follies
posted on Dec 12 2006

For those not in the know, “Follies” is an annual tradition held every Friday evening during Homecoming Week at Mississippi College. Student clubs (they are referred to as clubs & tribes… because Jesus wasn’t in a Fraternity) perform 10 minute skits which are held in front of a standing room only crowd in Nelson Hall.

Traditionally, only Freshman actually appear in the skits while the skits themselves are written and created by upperclassmen. The winner gets bragging rights for life. It still irks me that the got second place my Freshman year, and first runner-up the year I wrote/directed the skit. The It’s the one week of the year at MC where people actually get a little angry with one another. The rest of the year we spend praying for all you sinners at public universities… you naughty, naughty people.

This video is actually from the 2006 Civitan Follies Skit. Civitan is always the front-runner among the guys… and it just so happens that I’m an alum.

The video quality is terrible. It’s obvious from the sngle that the cameraman sat at the back of Swor Auditorium. Why, I do not know. But it’s fun to reminisce anyhow.

So I Got A MySpace Page
posted on Dec 11 2006

Uncle, uncle!!!

I’ve broken down and finally gotten an account on the site I love to hate… MySpace. Now quit bugging me about it.

You can view my profile here, or click on the link on the right hand side of the page. My MySpace webpage address is http://www.myspace.com/thelandonhowell… yeah, I know.

I’ve always hated MySpace. I’ve called it slow, ugly, and creeepy. Now that I have a page I now realize that those opinions are actual facts.

A few questions for you MySpace junkies:

  • Is there any way to change the “Top Friends” setting to randomize? I don’t rank my friends… I love you all equally… because that’s what Jesus does.
  • Does it show when people update their page?
  • Is there any way to syndicate my already existing blog into my MySpace blog using my RSS feed? (I know that question caused an earthquake of a headache for almost half of you.)
  • Does it list your friends in any sequential order?
  • Is there any easy way to search through your friends by using their name?
  • If the answers are “no” to any of these questions… all the more proof that MySpace is sub par.

It’s a miracle this site has ever survived, much less thrived to grown into the #1 website of the English language.

What Are Your Top 10 Favorite Christmas Movies?
    posted on Dec 11 2006

A different spin on a typical QOTD.

What are your top top favorite Christmas movies? Here is a full list of every Christmas movie ever made. However, should you love one that somehow did not make the list, please feel free to post anyway.

It’s hard for me to rank a top ten. A Christmas Story always has been my favorite… but every movie I watch each year I do so in an almost religious fashion, loving each one for a different reason. So much so that my honorable mentioned movies could all arguably end up in my top five.

Wow… I way too into Christmas. My Top 10:

    1. A Christmas Story
    2. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
    3. It’s A Wonderful Life
    4. Christmas Vacation
    5. Home Alone
    6. Elf
    7. Scrooged
    8. Santa Claus: The Movie
    9. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer
    10. Prancer
    11. Honorable mention:
Love Actually, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Miracle On 34th Street (1994 & 1947), The Santa Clause, Home Alone 2, Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 & 2000), Frosty the Snowman, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, A Charlie Brown Christmas

  • Heads Up
    posted on Dec 7 2006

For those who have been asking, I started my new job this past Monday. I had been interviewing with the company for a while now and they gave me the call two days before Thanksgiving offering a position. It’s an incredible opportunity with one of the fastest growing companies in Seattle. The people within my team are incredibly smart (let’s hope they rub off on me) and nice as can be.

This will be the one and only time I will specifically discuss work on the blog. It’s one of the rules I set forth before starting the blog. I won’t blog about any business or position unless I have complete or significant ownership of the business or position.

It should also be noted that I do not blog at work. It’s unethical and wrong, and I’ve seen too many people lose their jobs to blogging-at-work over the past couple of years to show me just how seriously it is taken in today’s work world. Only in rare… rare circumstances will such a thing ever happen. My posts are set to automatically post during work hours – sorry… I’m kinda breaking the 4th wall of blogging by telling you that – so don’t think that I’m sneaking-in posts on company time.

If it seem like I’m a little vacant around here over the next couple of days… that’s because I am. I tried to put enough posts together over Thanksgiving holidays to keep you kids busy over the next couple of weeks. I’ve got a lot to learn with this new position and coming early, staying late, and devoting 200% are what the next few weeks will require seeing as I’m trying to learn as much as possible before flying home in 2 weeks.

However, I’m still here… same old Landon… same old blog. I’m just not in my pj’s during the day anymore… or am I?

    Aaron Is Home
    posted on Dec 7 2006

For those of you who’ve been so kind to ask, Aaron got home from China yesterday and is in Jasper today. He’s been gone for 15 months so I’m sure he’d love to hear from you.

Granted, his body is on a completely different schedule right now. Just add 14 hours to the current time… and that’s what time his bodily clock is on. So, when he answers he may seem a little groggy… but he’ll most likely be up and about seeing as he hasn’t driven his precious Honda Accord in over a year.

If you want our home phone number just shoot me an email.

List of Every Christmas Movie Ever Made
    posted on Dec 5 2006

its a wonderful lifeI came up with this list a couple years ago while trying to distract myself from graduate class work. I’ve since added it to the Wikipedia page dedicated to Christmas movies. Yes… it’s the dorkiest thing that I’ve ever done. But it was fun and whether or not you admit it, it’s kinda neat.

If you see that I’ve missed any movies (and I don’t doubt that I have) please leave a comment below. The criteria is simple in that all movies must directly involve the holiday of Christmas. Some movies can be “argued” into the list. However, when in doubt… I leave it out.
