Yeah… this is gonna be ugly.
In the minds of many, this Southern Miss football season is already over. Tomorrow’s PapaJohns.com Bowl will certainly be a match-up between two opposites. Most publications and media outlets have already dubbed this the ‘biggest potential blowout’ game, with USM on the losing end of that.
This being Bower’s last game to coach, look for trick plays and fake punts, reminiscent of the good ole days when his coaching staff won 8-9 games a year and actually made calls which made sense.
If you’re there, enjoy the game without me. I’ll be in Brandon, MS photographing the wedding of college pal David Ash.
Southern Miss… TO THE TOP!!! TO GET EMBARRASSED ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!!! AGAIN!!!

If only they had you on the team to almost block punts…
11:15 am on Dec 21 2007If it’s on national television and no one watches it, can you really be all that embarrassed? Nobody cares about Southern Miss or its ‘embarrassing’ losses. That’s why it got ridiculed in the national press over the handling of the Bower situation.
5:25 pm on Dec 21 2007It still intrigues me how everyone not affiliated with Southern Miss considers Bower’s departure a ‘terrible situation’ for a so called ‘great coach’ of a ‘good team’…only for folks like myself to watch the same critics follow those statements with: ‘But now one cares about Southern Miss anyway.’
For ‘not caring’ about a university, USM sure does have a lot of college football fans who know so much about the team.
I mean, Michigan had a legit shot at winning the Big 10, yet Lloyd Carr was on the hot seat all year long. Why? Because their record didn’t necessarily represent their team. The same holds true for Southern Miss who, if playing in a better conference, would have been lucky to win 5 games the last two years.
7:13 pm on Dec 21 2007It wasn’t embarrassing at all. What was embarrassing was that Landon Howell, THE southern miss fan from THE southern miss family started whining before it even began.
As for Bower’s departure, it was a good move, but it is obvious that G had no control over the situation and supporters are running the show. My opinion, time for a change, but maybe a little more on Bower’s terms, unless the terms were that he start over with assistants and he refuse. The latter could very well have been what happened.
