So this All American Football League intrigues me (as do all start-up football leagues).
The AAFL:
- “League teams will employ only those players who have both completed their college football eligibility and earned a four-year degree. This policy is expected to have a very positive impact on universities’ NCAA Graduation Success Rate and their Academic Progress Rate. To the extent practical, graduates of host universities will play for the team hosted by their alma mater.”
…whatever that means. Anyhow, they had their draft over the weekend. The Alabama team has to former Southern Miss players on it… and I don’t recognize either one. Does anyone else recognize any name on this list?
Will one of you PLEASE plan on attending – and photographing – the inaugural game in Birmingham on April 19?

11:58 am on Jan 31 2008Milons, Tre Smith, Eddie Strong, are familiar, Cedric Norman was an indoor track guy at USM from Tuscaloosa.
Brian Balazik, wasn’t he with the Birmingham Steeldogs?
Dede and Bliss from Auburn, Saleem Rasheed from Bama, OLB wore number 11 at bama, Terry Jones Jr. was a TE at Bama, his dad was an noseguard for Bear Bryant in the late 70s who played with the Packers. His dad was the strength coach at Bama for Stallings and Dubose I think, Terry Jr. played for Dubose, went to Central in Tuscaloosa, you probably played against him in High School

I recognized Freddie Millons (Alabama WR), Tre Smith (Auburn RB), and Eddie Strong (Ole Miss LB). I would consider myself a college football junkie. The fact that only three names struck me as familiar college ‘stars’ should be troubling to the league. There is a team playing in Knoxville. I may have to check it out.
