OMG: Griffey to Seattle
Feb 19 2009

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Gawwwwwwwwwwwwwwd.

I’ve refrained from speaking about the on-goings surrounding the potential return of Griffey for fear of jinxing what has become one of the best days of my life.

All guys have man crushes. It’s true. If a man won’t admit to having a man crush, it’s only a sign that he has the ultimate form of man crushes: homosexuality.

My crushes were have always been Dale Murphy, Ken Griffey Jr., and Brett Favre. But being in Seattle the last two years helped me realize just how crucial Junior is to this city. Without Griffey, the Mariners as we known them today might not exist. Many in Seattle argue that, without Griffey, the Mariners wouldn’t exist at all. But they do exist, averaging 28,000+ despite the worst record in 2008 in the best MLB ballpark I’ve ever experienced. ‘The House That Griffey Built’, they call it.

As a child I idolized Griffey. There were two posters of sports posters in my room – one of Michael Jordan dunking, and the other of Griffey in his post-homer pose.

I was already fired up about baseball season. With the Griffey development, it can’t get here fast enough. I get to watch my childhood heroe go out (for better or for worse) in Seattle.

I’ll answer the questions currently racing through your mind:

  • Yes… I yelled at the top of my lungs while walking to my car and finding out the news on my phone.
  • Yes… I’m already signed-up to purchase a Griffey jersey.
  • Yes… I got emotional while watching old highlight videos online.
  • Hit it here, Junior…

    (I’m 14-years-old all over again.)
