The Mississippi Brilla FC minor league soccer team is gearing up for the start of the 2009 season. The team opens their 3rd season in the Premier Development League with the FC Atlanta Blackhawks on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00pm. The opening match will be played at M&F Bank Stadium, located at Freedom Ridge Park in the city of Ridgeland. Single match tickets may be purchased on the Mississippi Brilla FC website or at the ticket gate on game day for $5.
There are a number of activities scheduled for the opening weekend both in Clinton and in Ridgeland. On Friday, May 8th Mississippi Brilla FC will host a “Meet the Players Exhibition Game†at Traceway Park in Clinton on Field 13. The team will be playing Heroes FC Academy, which is coached by former US National Team player Desmond Armstrong. His academy is a residential academy based out of Huntsville, AL. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 pm and admission is free of charge. Mississippi Brilla FC ticket information, season schedules, camp information, and other club related items will be available at the event. The players will also be available for autographs and interviews after the game. The entire soccer community, along with all local media outlets, is encouraged to attend the “Meet the Players†event.
The Heroes FC Academy will also play an exhibition match against the U16 Mississippi Brilla Juniors on Saturday, May 9th at 1:00 pm. The match will also take place at Traceway Park in Clinton on Field 13. The exhibition match is free and open to the public.
The 2009 season officially kicks off for Mississippi Brilla at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 9th as they host the FC Atlanta Blackhawks. May 9th will be Dwyane Demmin Night sponsored by M&F Bank, and the first 500 fans in the stadium will receive a Dwyane Demmin poster. Demmin, a resident of Madison, MS, is a two-time All Conference selection, as well as a member of the 2007 PDL’s Best 11. Demmin also serves as the Head Coach of the St. Joseph High School Boys’ Soccer Team, who recently won the state championship. Demmin’s St. Joseph team, along with several of the metro area soccer state champions, will be honored during half time of the match.

Mississippi College alumni in the Montgomery, Ala. area will gather for a brown bag lunch, cookies and fellowship on Thursday April 30.
The 90-minute meeting begins at noon at First Baptist Church’s Senior Adult Center at 305 South Perry Street in Alabama’s capital city.
The goal for the Montgomery meeting is to discuss the creation of a scholarship for a local student who will attend MC in Clinton.
Lisa Williams of Fulton, Miss., MC’s regional alumni associate for North Mississippi, Alabama and other areas, will be among the speakers. Retired MC administrator Doc Quick of Clinton also plans to address the alums.
Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College has more than 30,000 alumni and friends located around the nation. MC maintains similar alumni groups that meet in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Pensacola, Huntsville, Birmingham, Oxford, the Memphis area, and other cities.

It’s a good thing that loses and bad loses count for the same amount… because we just lost 1-11. But hey… it’s good exercise, and for once I’m not the worst person on the team.
