Yeah… it’s old news by now… but just like a Missisippi State loss, I have to bring it up on the blog.

That’s one savior you got there.

Brilla FC

The Seattle Sounders may be our new love, but Brilla’s mission has always been something I’ve admired.

A release from Scott and the gang:

The Mississippi Brilla FC minor league soccer team is gearing up for the start of the 2009 season. The team opens their 3rd season in the Premier Development League with the FC Atlanta Blackhawks on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00pm. The opening match will be played at M&F Bank Stadium, located at Freedom Ridge Park in the city of Ridgeland. Single match tickets may be purchased on the Mississippi Brilla FC website or at the ticket gate on game day for $5.

There are a number of activities scheduled for the opening weekend both in Clinton and in Ridgeland. On Friday, May 8th Mississippi Brilla FC will host a “Meet the Players Exhibition Game” at Traceway Park in Clinton on Field 13. The team will be playing Heroes FC Academy, which is coached by former US National Team player Desmond Armstrong. His academy is a residential academy based out of Huntsville, AL. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 pm and admission is free of charge. Mississippi Brilla FC ticket information, season schedules, camp information, and other club related items will be available at the event. The players will also be available for autographs and interviews after the game. The entire soccer community, along with all local media outlets, is encouraged to attend the “Meet the Players” event.

The Heroes FC Academy will also play an exhibition match against the U16 Mississippi Brilla Juniors on Saturday, May 9th at 1:00 pm. The match will also take place at Traceway Park in Clinton on Field 13. The exhibition match is free and open to the public.

The 2009 season officially kicks off for Mississippi Brilla at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 9th as they host the FC Atlanta Blackhawks. May 9th will be Dwyane Demmin Night sponsored by M&F Bank, and the first 500 fans in the stadium will receive a Dwyane Demmin poster. Demmin, a resident of Madison, MS, is a two-time All Conference selection, as well as a member of the 2007 PDL’s Best 11. Demmin also serves as the Head Coach of the St. Joseph High School Boys’ Soccer Team, who recently won the state championship. Demmin’s St. Joseph team, along with several of the metro area soccer state champions, will be honored during half time of the match.

It’s a good thing that loses and bad loses count for the same amount… because we just lost 1-11. But hey… it’s good exercise, and for once I’m not the worst person on the team.

4 strawberries (3 on the left leg, 1 on the right) and left toe nail with blood trapped underneath are helping me feel like a tough guy.

We’ll get ‘em next time… hopefully.
