Excellent article from last weeks’ Daily Mountain Eagle on Principal ‘Coach’ Danny Gambrell.

Pam Brown, an English and drama teacher at WHS, recalls that Gambrell was always a good listener, especially to his students.

“We were always amazed how he knew everything that was going on with the students,”

My favorite memory of Coach is from my Senior year of high school. I was speeding driving in the rain, already late for class, when I came to a stop sign and bumped the car in front of me. With no damage to either car or driver, I continued to school, pulling into the parking lot just 3 minutes later.

As I was walking to homeroom, Coach stepped out of his office and into my path, crossed his arms, grinned and said, “Glad to hear that you and the other driver are okay.”

I stood completely still… perplexed… forever convinced that Danny had some sort of psychic ability.
