[My legs are not sexy.]

I’m convinced that the only thing worse than packing to depart the beach is the unpacking once at home. Being constantly reminded by sand grains and sunscreen scent which cover each piece of clothing as it’s pulled from a suitcase and placed into the washing machine.

  • Tailgating with family before watching Southern Miss beat Memphis.
  • 5 days at Orange Beach, AL. ~78 degrees and sunny. Need I say more?
  • While I already knew the story, I’d never read the book. Now half-way through The Blind Side, and it’s worth every minute.
  • Food count: Chick-fil-A (5 times), Bops, Milo’s, Waffle House, Lillians, The Crab Trap, and Cotton’s.
  • Flora-Bama.
  • Holding my breath on the flight from Houston to Seattle as we awaited the results of USM-Tulane, Aub-LSU, Fla-MSU, and Tenn-Ala.
  • Paranormal Activity was completely overrated.

Live Blogging from My Chair At The Beach

Aside from the fact that the iPhone audio makes the wind sounds like a hurricane is approaching, this is pretty much perfect.

Just had to rub it in.

Coming to you live from the beach. This is our first long vacation since Christmas (which is only 60-something days away) so the blog (aside from the occasional mid-workday beach photo) will be quite dead.

    Enjoy your work week.

    Convincing
    posted on Oct 15 2009

Mark Driscoll is now blogging over at the Washington Post. His first blog post from Wednesday:

Q: What makes the best ‘case for God’ to a skeptic or non-believer, an open-minded seeker, and to a person of faith and Why?

    Answer
    Jesus.

Christianity is not first and foremost about a sacred place to pilgrimage to, a philosophical system to ponder, a moral code to live, a religious tradition to honor, or an impersonal god to experience. Rather, Christianity is about a person who claimed to be the only God and said he would prove his unprecedented claim by living without sin, dying for sinners, and conquering death through resurrection.

So, as Christians, our aim is not to convince people of some god in general, but to introduce them to Jesus in particular.

NYT Article on Stumptown in NYC
    posted on Oct 14 2009

Great piece from the New York Times on the newly opened Stumptown:

The barista who took my order at Stumptown Coffee Roasters possessed the bone structure of a male model. He was tall and focused and had a tattoo of a schooner on his forearm.

    He called me “sir.”

It was a level of ceremony — or even civility — you don’t usually encounter when jockeying for an espresso in New York.

And you don’t usually come across an espresso ($2.50) this exceptional anywhere in the world.

Stumptown, which opened in the Ace Hotel earlier this month, puts a polish on the fanaticism of what’s known as coffee’s “Third Wave.” It’s a movement of purists (no flavorings, please) and obsessives (bags of micro-lot beans are labeled with the latitude, longitude and elevation where grown).

Arguably, this is New York’s first farm-to-cup cafe. Stumptown was started in Portland, Ore., by Duane Sorenson, a legend in coffee circles. The company is known for an intensity that’s part punk, part religion.
