Happy Monday: post Mississippi edition
posted on Sep 12 2010

Weddings! They’re fun. You see old friends. You witness two people commit the rest of their lives to one another! And they’re oh-so-flipping exhausting. I’m exhausted (and, truth be told, I didn’t really even do that much).

  • A four-day weekend in Olive Branch, MS.
  • A Saturday ‘o college football at Buffalo Wild Wings with friends who flew in from Seattle.
  • The dance, y’all.
  • Wedding time, in the Mississippi sticks.
  • Mississippi customizable tags, for the win.
  • Southern Miss defeats the powerhouse of Prairie View A&M.
  • Our reentry to Seattle, flying past Mt Rainier…

    Chick-fil-A Report: The Damage
    posted on Sep 12 2010

I had a measly three days in the South. Our hotel was 5 miles from the nearest Chick-fil-A, and with a rental car at my side I did the most damage possible.

      2 Original Chicken Sandwiches
      1 Spicy Chicken Sandwich
      1 large fry
      2 small fry
      7 large sweet teas
      1 small Ice Dream

It was my first time trying the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and I actually liked it despite my “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality. I actually found it quite spicy… but I’m a pansy after all.

By the way, I haven’t done the calorie count on the aforementioned items. I’d prefer not too, but you feel free.

    Me. You. Tonight.

    Throwback Tuesday
    posted on Sep 8 2010

I’m on a plane and the last few days have been quite hectic. Fun, but hectic. Hence the lack of opportunity to spend significant time crafting content.

Therefore I suggest you all spend your time today remembering the good times at I’m Remembering. You’ll thank me later.

Oh, Dick’s. You’re my favorite late night treat.

  • Friday evening birthday party at the Little Red Hen… a country music joint I’ve passed by 1,000 times but never managed to see.
  • Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival on Saturday.
    - Atlas Sound (good)
    - The Decemberists (meh)
    - Neko Case (meh)
    - Bob Dylan (ugh. seriously.)
    - The Raveonettes (amazing)
  • Sunday we had visitors: MC alumni and professional photographer Robby Followell and his wife were in town and they were treated to our spectacular air mattress.
  • The most amazing episode of Mad Men, ever.
  • Monday was a a quick trip to the Bakery Nouveau, and then work. Seriously, work. It’s going to be a busy week.

Only, in his alcohol-induced state Don could say it best. Good Lord, that was an amazing episode.

    …and everyone cringes.

Ever read of an accident and think, “How stupid could those people be?” Me too. All the time.

But then there are those accidents that make you think, “Yeah… that could have happened to me a hundred times over my life.” This is one of those accidents:

Three people died Friday night in a car crash on Whidbey Island after the passenger of a Chevrolet Blazer SUV grabbed the steering wheel so the driver could remove her sweater, according to the Washington State Patrol.

    By the numbers…
    posted on Sep 3 2010

It was an ugly game. Southern Miss lost 41-13, which makes the following numbers both humorous and upsetting.

    Total Yards:
    South Carolina: 449
    Southern Miss: 404

Trips to the red Zone: Southern Miss: 6… only 2 of which resulted in points.

As good as South Carolina was… Southern Miss beat themselves.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume Southern Miss scores 7 on each of those other four trips into the red zone (LOL!), 28 points would have been the result. The score in “Landon’s Hypothetical Land”: 41-41. (Southern Miss would have found a way to lose in overtime.)

If for some reason or another you are upset with me and would like to get me riled up by bringing to light additional embarrassing statistics… have at it and post your findings in the comments section below.

    That was terrible.

I don’t want to talk about it. I haven’t been this embarrassed since… well… the last game we played.

The Official Fearless 2010 Southern Miss Predictions
    posted on Sep 2 2010

Welcome once again to the brief results of my over-analyzation of the Conference USA mid-major that is my fall/winter lifestyle, Southern Miss.

College football season is here, and it kicks off on a Thursday with Southern Miss. THE Southern Miss you’ve come to know, love, then cheer for against the “bigger guys”.

What’s at stake in 2010? With 13 consecutive winning seasons, Southern Miss has the third longest streak in the nation of its kind. Additionally, we’ve been to 8 consecutive bowl games, and we’re picked by many journalists to win Conference USA this year.

    No pressure.

Southern Miss is famous for 3 things: 1) Being consistently good but never consistently great, 2) Finding a way to either dominate or be dominated on a national TV stage, and 3) Promising to play “Anyone. Anywhere. Anytime.”

Be careful what you wish for.

The first game of the 2010 college football season features Southern Miss against a formidable SEC team (Anyone) on the road (Anywhere) on ESPN in prime time (Anytime).

Fearless prediction: South Carolina 27-14 Southern Miss.

2010 Season Overall: 10-2, C-USA Championship, and a spot in the Dallas Football Classic or Liberty Bowl .
