Christmas Every Day begins in 41 days
posted on Oct 16 2010

If you’re new to the blog, you should know: we like Christmas. More importantly, we love Christmastime.

To celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, we have a little thing called Christmas Every Day. We celebrate Christmas with dedicated posts every day from November 26 through December 25.

In the next few weeks I’ll announce the theme. Yes… as opposed to simply doling out piles of posts on Christmas stuff, we’re doing a theme, and I’m pretty pumped about it.

Details to come.

Christmas decorations are up at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and I would assume they’re up at Walmart, and maybe even Target.

71 days until Christmas.

Condoleezza Rice (for many reasons that can be detailed in a slew of blog posts) is one of my favorite people in the political realm.

NPR posted a 7 minute conversation with her, and this awesome photo from the White House during a family trip to Washington, D.C.

To be honest, these past few days have been incredibly relaxing.

We moved this weekend, therefore we don’t have an Internet setup, and I’m blogging via iPhone. So, in short:
    - Hooray! Alabama lost. Auburn won. Our move went well. Sounders are in the playoffs. Our apartment view is awesome.
    - Boo! Southern Miss lost. It was cold and rainy.

We’re moving cross-city tomorrow. Hooray! The more I move, the junk I find I’ve collected, and the more I wonder how I got all this junk to begin with and why I’m hellbent on hanging on to it.

If you’re bored over the weekend, join us on Twitter where I end up posting photos and lame jokes, and we all usually end up in some serious, but hilarious fight over college football.

Winning a championship is fun. Watching your team win a championship in person is even better.

Soccer doesn’t mean much to most of you. It didn’t mean anything until I moved to Seattle and experienced the first MLS Sounders match.

It’s a huge deal in Seattle. So huge, it still freaks me out.

Seattle won its 2nd straight US Open Cup last night in front of a US Open Cup record crowd of 31,311.

The record attendance smashed the old mark of 21,583 set in 1929. Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world.

    It was amazing.

If you have a Twitter account, and we follow one another, you’ve seen me complain attempt to speak to Chick-fil-A about their lack of a mall unit or FSU (free standing unit) in the Seattle metropolitan area.

No… the Chick-fil-A Express two hours away in Bellingham does not count.

I always thought Chick-fil-A saw my tweets; now, I know they see them.

These lists, while not surprising for the most part, made me laugh. Evidently the way to unify America is through cooking and home decor.

I couldn’t help but laugh even haerder when I realized that I visit 5 of the 9 Liberal sites each day, yet only 3 of the 11 Conservative sites. This, liberals, is the definition of open minded. I blocked a penalty kick in indoor soccer on Friday. I’d describe to you just how big of a deal that is, but you don’t care, my wife doesn’t care, and I’m fully aware of that.

  • The Social Network was awesome.
  • Tried a new brewery. Humble, wonderful, operating out of an old distribution center.
  • Church was on demons. Seriously.
  • Sunday was bad for my teams.

  • Your not-quite-mid-season Southern Miss report
    posted on Oct 3 2010

Hey, ‘member this? Me too. Still thinking about it more than I should, which is why I need to stop, smell the roses, and enjoy being 4-1.

We’re on a 4 game win streak, and off to our best start since 2004, which began 4-0. And while Southern Miss is 4-1, the teams they’ve beaten are 3-1, 2-3, 2-3, 1-4, and 1-4… which doesn’t do much for our strength of schedule. However, our only loss is to the #19/20 team in the nation. We’re still in glass half full/half empty territory. I’m a glass half empty guy, and I’ve probably enjoyed USM football less over the last few years because of it.

Southern Miss’ home winning streak is now 11 games and Saturday night we scored on four of our first six possessions.

Did I mention that our best WR hasn’t played for the last two games? With DeAndre Brown healthy, the secondary changes substantially as Brown is usually double, many times triple teamed.

With Casey Keenum out for the season at Houston (terrible for him and C-USA) I honestly believe we can run the table in C-USA, and finish 11-1 before the C-USA Championship game. But, then again, we are talking about Southern Miss… and we always find a way to embarrass ourselves.
