In honor of the 15th anniversary of the Atlanta Olympics, my favorite Olympic moment.

I know entirely too much about a few things in life, and Olympic gymnastics is one of those things. I won’t discuss more for fear of scaring my wife like I always do when the Olympics are discussed.

Southern Miss even fails at releasing positive information
    posted on Jul 19 2011

Two bits of USM news were released on Tuesday, in addition to ESPN predicting that Southern Miss could go 12-0.

Southern Miss Athletic Department… why… why release two cool pieces of info in one day? Because you’re the Southern Miss Athletic Department.

  • BYU & Southern Miss agree to home-and-home in 2014 and 2015.
  • Southern Miss will have three (THREE) helmet options in 2011. It’s been confirmed that one will be a matte black with the Eagle head logo on one side and the player’s number on the other. I assume the second will be the traditional helmet. As for the third, God only knows, but I have tingles.
  • …and someone said it:

    9. Southern Miss Golden Eagles
If the Eagles can handle a September trip to Virginia, they should be favored in every game and could be looking at a 12-0 record. Navy might be the toughest roadie on the schedule. Put the Eagles on the list of potential party crashers.

  • The unfinished, doesn’t-tell-me-much-but-I’m-posting-it-anyway photo of a 2011 matte black helmet…

How big a fan are you?
    posted on Jul 8 2011

The other day on BigGoldNation.com (the Rivals.com site for Southern Miss) a question was posed: How “Golden Eagle” are you?

Most of the answers revolved around the shifting of wedding dates or praying that a baby wouldn’t be born on a game day.

    My response is below:

“On the morning of the 2001 Southern Miss-UAB football game I split my shin open (2 1/2 inches) during an outdoor excursion. My leg was bleeding profusely, and a friend on the trip (a Registered Nurse) told me to go head to the hospital immediately; 7-8 stitches would likely be required. I opted to head to the football game, leaving a shirt sleeve tied around my upper calf acting as a sort of “Mississippi tourniquet”, bleeding into my shoe throughout the entire game… which ended in a 3-0 USM victory.

To this very day not only do I have a visible scar, but also an even more visible accompanying indention in my right shin.

    Southern Miss… to the top.”

Cheap thrills: Southern Miss entrance on EA Sports NCAA Football 2012

This reminds me of the “we must protect this house” Under Armour ads. Only, Southern Miss might not protect this house.

EA Sports even got Austin Davis’ persistent shrug down pat (see: #13 @ 46 seconds). If it’s in the game, it’s in the game… which I’m assuming means that Southern Miss will blow a 21 point lead.
