Oh Blog, Why Do You Toy With Me
posted on Jul 27 2008

We had serious business to tend to around these parts over the weekend. “Serious business” is code for watching Step Brothers on Saturday, late night dinner at The Cheesecake Factory.

That said, the “slow page loading” on the blog is persisting and I am digging to find out why. I appreciate your patience.

Readers’ Blogs

Posts from readers’ blogs (yous guys) from around the blogosphere.

  • Read Aaron’s ongoing comparison of Austin food to New York City food.
  • MC grads Taylor & Emily Jones are moving to Seattle. Good thing they’re moving in the summer this year — this winter was enough to scare lifers away.
  • We still like Paige DeAngleo even though she’s a Yankees fan.
  • Screech wants to be a pro wrestler.
  • Either somebody has hacked into Snyder News, or Snyder is blogging again.
  • Jody saw Carrie Underwood in concert.

I’m quite intrigued by the response/survey results regarding Joel Osteen.

…and kudos to the mature, logical, loving discussion — we could use a little more of that around here at times.

    Comments Open

Sorry for last week’s snafu regarding the comments section. I should have known something was up when I praised USM and blasted MSU in the same post and got no response.

The comments are working again (for now) as I’ve changed some of the settings. Use this opportunity to test the parameters and catch-up on unexpressed opinions from the last week.

    Messed Up Comment Section

I’ve been given the heads-up that the comments section within each post is messed up at the moment. I’ll dig into it this weekend. I appreciate the patience.

    ‘Side Links’ Coming Back
    posted on Feb 21 2008

For those who expressed concern over the disappearance of the ‘Blogroll’ and other series of links on the right side of the page, do not fret: they’re coming back, at that right soon.

Just all a part of the renovation here at the blog.

    New Blog Features
    posted on Feb 20 2008

You may have noticed little boxes located just above the comments, within each post.

These new-fangled buttons allow you to easily email blog posts, as well as allow you to send posts to your Facebook account, MySpace, Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon, and much, much more. (Sounds like an infomercial.)

Simply roll your mouse over the icon and select what you would like to do with it

    So… About MSU Week
    posted on Feb 15 2008

Mississippi State University sealIn the case that you missed yesterday’s explanation regarding ‘MSU Week’ in the comments section, here it is.

I’ve had very little time over the past 5 days to assemble detailed posts, though I was banking on the State fans of the blog (of which there are more than a few) to submit ‘why I love MSU’ entries.

In any case, it should have been better.

So, I’ll be taking suggestions via the comment section below as to what you think should be done in order to make up for my “slacking.” (It’s been a busy week, folks.) No stupid crap like “MSU Month!” or “leave the M State logo on your blog for the rest of the the year.” Everyone would simply read your comment and laugh. Anyone can propose a solution, not just ‘Dawgs. So, once again, I’m giving you free range to propose anything within reason. Don’t disappoint.

90 Day Jane… It Was All A Hoax
    posted on Feb 14 2008

If you noticed yesterday’s interesting (and saddening) post, you’ll be happy to know that it was all a hoax.

‘Jane’ discusses it here, Radar gives a quick summary.

    Twittering Your Firing
    posted on Feb 14 2008

twitter logFor those who don’t know what Twitter is:

“Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send “updates” (or “tweets”; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website…”

Anyway. A guy from yahoo! was canned yesterday, and he decided to Twitter the entire thing. It’s quite entertaining. Here’s a snippet…

Y! layoffs today, I’m “impacted”. I’m heading into work to pack my desk, get my severance paperwork and hand in my badge…more to come. about 10 hours ago

On the plus side, my commute just got a lot shorter. about 10 hours ago.

Ironic that I just got my PC repaired yesterday. Won’t be needing that anymore. about 9 hours ago.

Walking around saying good bye to some great people and good friends. about 9 hours ago

Waiting for the call from HR so I can go pick up my paperwork….C’mon, c’mon! I’m busy here! Let’s get this over with. about 8 hours ago

This is a serious downer. Trying to drown it in free lattes. Which I will miss. about 8 hours ago

I’ve spent time on the phone today Yahoo! (who hosts the website) and we’re yet to figure out the major issues.

For now, I’m opting to publish a crappy version of the blog until I can figure out what errors exists.

    Work In Progress
    posted on Feb 8 2008

palmThanks for all the feedback over the last 4 days concerning the way I’m “tweaking the blog. We’ve still got some work to do on it, and I appreciate the constructive criticism.

The main motivation for “cleaning up” the blog was to find out why the blog is loading slowly, as well as to present information in a way that’s easier for me to write and for you to read.

I will be adding/changing a few more things over the next few days. Keep the comments coming.
