Down With The Dawgs
posted on Apr 1 2008

Another exciting announcement today. Long time Mississippi State supporter and rabid Hossein Razzaghi (also known as blog commenter ‘hr’) will soon begin a new venture: WhyStateSucks.org

Per Mr. Razzaghi:

“I woke up the other day an realized that Mississippi State sucks. There’s no way to sugar coat it. State just sucks… and the only worse than State is Starkville itself. Dear God… Starkville smells like burnt hair and rotten applesauce.”

stupidOddly… this is the first time this year we’ve made fun of the Mississippi State basketball team, though I thought I should mention that they lost to Memphis yesterday, leaving only their baseball team to take at jabs over the next few months.

We can’t hate on the Bulldogs (DAWGS!) too much. They put up a good fight, but beating Memphis would have simply delayed the inevitable.

That said, even when State excels in basketball, I still giggle like a third grader when I’m reminded of the fact that State fans lovingly and thoroughly enjoy referring to their arena as the ‘hump‘.

stupidMSU president resigns

My favorite clip:

Lately, Foglesong has been the subject of some dissatisfaction on the Starkville campus. He has been blamed for blocking access to the social networking Web site Facebook for one day in February. The university attributed the problem to a technical issue between the university’s system and Facebook.

Seriously… that’s considered a major issue at MSU? Have things changed that much since I left Mississippi 2 years ago? I would have thought that the rapes and fake rapes and over-achieving football program would have played much more of a role in someone getting fed up with Starkvegas after 24 whole months.

So… About MSU Week
posted on Feb 15 2008

Mississippi State University sealIn the case that you missed yesterday’s explanation regarding ‘MSU Week’ in the comments section, here it is.

I’ve had very little time over the past 5 days to assemble detailed posts, though I was banking on the State fans of the blog (of which there are more than a few) to submit ‘why I love MSU’ entries.

In any case, it should have been better.

So, I’ll be taking suggestions via the comment section below as to what you think should be done in order to make up for my “slacking.” (It’s been a busy week, folks.) No stupid crap like “MSU Month!” or “leave the M State logo on your blog for the rest of the the year.” Everyone would simply read your comment and laugh. Anyone can propose a solution, not just ‘Dawgs. So, once again, I’m giving you free range to propose anything within reason. Don’t disappoint.

Josh Daily: Why I love Mississippi State!!!

Mississippi State Graduate Josh Daly tells us why he loves Mississippi State:

In August 1999, I was released by my parents into the world that we call college. That is when I began to create my own identity and make my own decisions. My freshman and sophomore year was filled with football seasons filled with memories and wins….10-2. Basketball games were even more exciting! MSU grew me into the studly man that I am today. I received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in my 5 1/2 years at MSU. Now, in my fourth and last year of school in New York City, I am president of my class. Why was I voted this honor over students from almost every state and major university? Because I went to MSU of course!
Best of all…..I met the love of my life and soon to be wife(June 7th) at MSU. She just happens to be the most wonderful girl in the world. If I went to MC, I would have been stuck with her twin sister….

State is currently undefeated in the SEC and are playing in an hour. I must go.

    Go Dawgs!

48 hours after my announcing the spoils of the Maroon bet, and my inbox looks like Starkville on a Friday night: empty and covered in spam.

NO one. I repeat, no one Mississippi State graduate/current student/rabid fan who reads this blog has sent me an email with their free blog post detailing their love for Mississippi State.

I know you guys/gals are reading… you email me twice a day to notify me to my spelling errors.

From Birmingham to Boston, New York to Los Angeles, Jackson to Jasper… you guys read, represent, yet you do not write.

Just to restate: this doesn’t have to be 500 whole words… 500 is just the maximum. I know you guys understand 500… because your football team just finished above .500 for the first time since Bush took office.

SO. Understand that I am taunting you. I am still laughing about the Maine game right now. Ok… now everybody on the blog is laughing at you. No one likes Mississippi State. We are laughing at our desks. Our bosses are now laughing with us.

Please. You won the bet. Take advantage of this opportunity to rule the blog for 1 week.

Mississippi State University sealGood morning folks.

As you might have noticed, there’s a big fat Mississippi State logo where my big blue box usually is. You might remember that I both proposed and lost a bet surrounding the 2007 Mississippi State University football team.

This month is ‘Mississippi State Month’, though this week is the cu de gra: Mississippi State week. If the current array of maroon is scaring your retina, fear not for it will be gone this Friday evening. For now, I hope that the State graduate blog readers enjoy the next 5 days. You’ve earned it by enduring the slew of State posts I’ve authored since the blog’s inception in 2005.

Happy ‘MSU Week’. I hope that the graduates and current MSU students reading will enjoy these days. Hold on… can current State students reads blogs? I just didn’t know if Starkville was ‘Internet ready’.

The Maroon Bet : Enjoy the Spoils
    posted on Nov 12 2007

CrooooooooooomWe’ll, unless you purposely ignore all posts tagged ‘ms state‘ you are well aware of the Maroon Bet of 2007. I proposed that Mississippi State must win at least 7 games this year and I’d give them some special airtime here on the blog.

Well… Mississippi State fans aren’t quite comfortable with 7 wins (can you blame them?) so I adjusted it to 6 games in order to adhere to ‘Mississippi State Standards’.

With a win over Alabama (wow, y’all paid Nick Saban a lot of money) Mississippi State wins the bet which requires me to fulfill the following…

      1) Dedicate one full week to Mississippi State on this blog. This will entail changing the colors from blue to maroon as well as dedicating 1 post per day to “fun facts” about State and it’s glorious history and traditions.

      2) Taking a 1-month absence from any anti-State blog posts. Yes… During the month of January 2008, I will agree not to post one joke, jab, or negative comment about the maroon nation (but you guys should be kicking-butt in basketball during that time, so it won’t matter anyway).

      3) Every reader of this blog who went to Mississippi State will receive one free blog posting totaling no more than 500 words in which to detail their love, admiration, stories, traditions, passion, etc. surrounding Mississippi State.

I will release more details within the next few days as to how and when the “spoils” will be rewarded.

The Maroon Bet has a winner… and I stand fallen, bowing down to a team that couldn’t be happier about being (at least) .500. Mississippi State defeated Alabama John Parker Wilson to win the Maroon Bet and become bowl elligable.

More details to follow on Monday. Sorry folks… it’s Saturday and there’s other things to do than talk about a Lincoln Financial game. Congrats though.

Old Mississippi State HelmetIt never felt like it would get here. I mean… it feels like just yesterday I left work, grabbed some Chinese food, and headed home for the first slaughter game of the year. But here we are… pitching our tent on the Campground of Hope, with the Sea of Success just beyond the horizon. Whadaya say we sit around the campfire tonight and talk about the memories of years past?

Mississippi State could go to a bowl game. No, really.

The Maroon Bet is thisclose to being fulfilled. It’s like the day before Christmas in the sleepy little town of Starkville.

…and you know what gets ‘em fired up in Starkville. OLD! MAIN!

I Would Fit Right In At Mississippi State
    posted on Oct 22 2007

Old Mississippi State HelmetAfter my small gaff earlier this week when I posted that State’s current record was 3-3 when, in actuality it was 4-3 (4 wins is a big deal in Pattytown), I received my share of shots from a few ‘dogs (DAWGS!) who read the blog when my ability to perform basic math was called into question.

Well… it appears that not everyone at Mississippi State knows how to add and subtract… this includes the writer of athletic press releases (I hope this wasn’t you P.K.) whom, I would assume, holds kind of an important role at a university with such a storied athletic history (‘member that game they won in the snow? NOBODY can win in SNOW!)

According to the Mississippi State athletic department, the Bulldogs actually have a better winning percentage after their loss, noting the ‘Dogs record at 4-2… which is odd because their record is 4-4.

From the ‘Dogs (DAWGS!) athletic department:

West Virginia scored 28 first-quarter points and the ninth-ranked Mountaineers never looked back in a 38-13 victory over visiting Mississippi State Saturday afternoon in the second meeting ever between the teams, the first on the Morgantown campus.

With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 4-2 overall. WVU improved to 6-1. The Mountaineers claimed both meetings in the two-year series, also winning last season in Starkville.

For our own keepsake, we took a screenshot of the page (which is posted below) just in case someone in the Bulldog nation got wise to the error over 37 hours after its posting.

The comments section is open… you know… just in case you wanna post a response.
