Lord knows I love attention. So needless to say I freaked out when I saw that Robby Followell updated his website and we had 2 photos (one of us, one of our rings) from our wedding, I was happy.

Robby’s photos in general have made such a splash around the interwebs that some friends of ours in Seattle are talking to him about their wedding in Spring 2011.

Photo Website

Folks have inquired about purchasing photos I take. I never take pictures with the thought of ever selling them, but Seattle’s an expensive city to live in, so I thoughtwhattheheckwhynot?

LandonHowellPhotography is a site I have owned for a while now in the case that I ever decided to sell anything. Now I’ve made them publicly available for sale on Etsy.

Thus far 23 photos have been posted and 5 have been sold… it freaks me out that 4 of those hang in homes of people I’ve never met. Elizabeth Barge (college buddy and blog read) purchased another last week after inquiring about obtaining one that wasn’t posted. So know that any are available for purchase if they ever catch your eye.

If you ever have any questions about photos or obtaining one you’ve seen, feel free to contact me.

{ By the way: Some of you have asked about the book that was to be released a few months back. Long story short: the book was complete, my laptop was stolen, I didn’t have a back-up copy. Yikes. }

Picking A Camera
posted on Jul 22 2008

coolpix

I’ve had a few folks email me over the past few weeks about camera recommendations. I’ spare the long-winded suggestions and give you the short-n-sweet version.

When it comes to top of the line camers (yes Sony and others produce high-qulity cameras) the top two players in the market are Cannon and Nikon. Both produce quality products and both have comperable models. Talk to any professional and they will recommend either, though they will swear by one. They will usually swear by the one they started with (ie – the one most accustomed to).

I swear by Nikon… my first great camera experience.

  • Nikon DSLR – These digital cameras are for those who are on their way to (or have serious interest in experiencing) serious photography. I own the D80 and love it, though the D40 is the best entry level for you (and your wallet). D60 is the newest addition and should be considered the most affordable cuttign-edge intro camera on the market. Those prices on the website are for the camera body only… look for a ‘bundled package’ which includes a decent lens. I don’t suggest buying used lenses or cameras on eBay — lots of reasons… just trust me.
  • Nikon Coolpix – Slim, easily portable cameras with great video and tremendous photo quality. 90% of the you should own one of these cameras (I’m about to buy one as a back-up for sporting events/concerts). I recommend the S52c or the S52. All of my pics from Europe were on a slim Coolpix.
  • It’s pretty simple… pick one and I promise (promise) you will never regret it.

Hope you had a grand Memorial Day weekend.

The photo is one of the early bloomers at the world renown International Rose Test Garden in Portland, Oregon.

We took a 2-day trip to Oregon, spending a day in Portland, driving through Oregon wine country to visit the vineyard of one of our favorite Pinot Noirs, and made it back Monday night in time for the Mariners-Red Sox game.

I’d be interested to hear on any interesting things in your realm as well.

    Knight-Ash Wedding
    posted on Jan 30 2008

When my dear friend David Ash (and by ‘dear friend’, I simply mean that I wanna be his pal when he’s elected governor of Mississippi) asked me a few months ago if I’d photograph his December wedding, I was a little taken back, because… well this photo crap is just for fun. I’ve never been paid a dime for any of my work that was published or recognized. Plus, photographing London at my leisure and documenting the most important day of someone life are two completely different things.

Both David and Susannah were incredibly gracious. They wanted candid, fly-on-the-wall photos that were more of a photo journalism-esque take on the day without all the “hey guys – light the Unity Candle and turn towards me and smile” moments. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that… but.)

Basically everything you see was them simply being themselves… no cheesy or posed, cliché photos. It was freakin’ fun.

And while I took over 2,000 photos (yes, 2K – don’t know what I was thinking) I’ll spare your eyes the focus and my website the bandwidth through only posting a select few below.
