The differences between an IndyCar and Formula 1 car

I fell in love with racing during the pandemic, Formula 1 being the main focus.

It was a combination of Netflix’s Drive To Survive, the rise of iRacing and the related virtual racing boom, the ability of racing to acclimate to the pandemic (it’s easy to socially distance at a massive outdoor track), and the lack of other sports on television.

Now that I’ve got my head wrapped around F1, I’m eager to better understand and appreciate IndyCar. This video does an excellent job of covering the differences and similarities of the cars.

  • The is IndyCar is shorter in length!

  • The IndyCar has two different rear wings that are swapped out based on the track!

  • The IndyCar is heavier?!

What does a head-to-head speed comparison look like? Head to the 7:12 mark.
