The longest drive

What’s the longest drive you’ve ever made?

This question allowed me to get nostalgic and do math things while watching Christmas movies the other day.

These are my longest drives.

Seattle to Alabama
47 hours // 3,129 miles

We decided to make our move an adventure.
10 states in 5 days.

Alabama to Seattle (Round 1)
38 hours // 2,545 miles

In 2006 I felt the call to leave my hometown of Jasper, Alabama, population 14,000, and move to Seattle. I found a room for rent on Craigslist, loaded a few bags into my Pontiac, and drove west by northwest.

On the way, the Pontiac died in Sheridan, Wyoming. I sold it for scrap ($450), which was enough to cover the rental car and gas for the remainder of the drive to Seattle.

Alabama to Seattle (Round 2)
42 hours // 2,815 miles

Boston to Mississippi to Boston
21 or 22 hours // 1,400 miles

We did either of these back to the south every Christmas for three years just to be offline for a few days.
