The perfect description of the Alaskan Way Viaduct

I loved the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

For most of my time in Seattle, I lived in Queen Anne. The Viaduct was our key means of transportation for trips to SoDo for Mariners games, drives to West Seattle for Mexican food. The Viaduct was also the perfect view of the city, even better than the view from Kerry Park on many days.

Why? Kerry Park does a perfect job of showing you the city.

The Viaduct? It moved you through the city.

I saw this comment on Facebook and I thought it perfectly encapsulates how I feel about the Viaduct.

“Very mixed feelings. From worrying about an earthquake hitting while I was headed south home from work. Yes I was counting the beams to see where I should stop so I would not be pancaked. To the views going Northbound. Unobstructed look at the water, the Olympics and the Emerald City of Glass Towers.

“Guess this is what progress is. Maybe the waterfront will be pretty at some point for an evening stroll.

“RIP - our old shaky viaduct.”
