Rumination vs. Introspection

Rumination is when you’re just sitting there, constantly replaying the past. We’ve all been there.

Here are four steps I follow when I catch myself ruminating and want to stop.

  1. I notice myself doing this.

  2. Ask myself what I’m trying to gain by doing this. “Yo, Landon… What new information and new things are helping you right now?

  3. I figure out the situations that cause me to ruminate. Typically it is work conflict from the past that I could’ve tackled with greater confidence.

  4. Direct my attention to something else.
