I think the best board members do the following:

1. A great board member asks questions from a unique point of view; as in, they’re an expert on something.

2. A great board member will ask questions you need to be thinking about and questions you might be scared to think about.

3. A great board member will work hard on behalf of the company, most often without being asked.
